DreamCatcher Farm is currently “in process” so please feel free to come over and visit to see what we’re all about. …but remember that we are 3 years into a 5+ year development plan!

Eventually the farm will have bridle paths in and out of the woods covering our entire 12 acres of land. When our project is complete we will have 2 run in barns with individual paddock turnouts, an indoor 4 stall barn, a tack building, a large (2+ acre) paddock with a run in shed, a 60 ft round pen and an arena.

DreamCatcher Farm is located off Steele Creek Rd., which is just a short drive down Chena Hot Springs Rd. We have 12+ acres of partially cleared, naturally wooded land. Both families are building homes on the farm and we are currently heavily involved in the construction projects as well as landscaping. We have one bridle path that travels around the outskirts of the farm, up the top of our hill overlooking the valley towards North Pole/Salcha then down around through the woods and back up our driveway.

Angela Smith has been working with horses since the age of 9. She has been involved with 4-H as a youth as well as currently Leading the horse club, Amour de Cheval. Angela has ridden extensively both English and Western styles as well competing in several endurance rides. Angela has experience training as she purchased her horse Dez, as a 2 year old stallion, and has provided comprehensive work with him resulting in an extremely well-behaved, well-shown animal.

Dez was her second training project, her first being “Dusty” a palomino quarter horse mix she purchased as a 3 year old and brought through training culminating in his current situation (he is leased now owned by a 4-H/pony club/open show rider, Kaitlyn Allen,  and performing well in all his endeavors).

Though Angela’s love of horses takes most of her free time, she also maintains a “day job” as a teacher at Pearl Creek Elementary, which she loves just as much. Angela enjoys using the skills she has practiced in her daily teaching to help her become a better instructor to new riders as well.

Hannah Brice Smith was raised around horses here in the Fairbanks area as a child and then passed her love of horses on to her daughters. Hannah has shown both English and Western styles and has experience training and working with flexibility for both horse and rider. By day, Hannah works as a nurse for Fairbanks Memorial Hospital, and is also in a position where she enjoys teaching others skills specific to her profession. Again, she is able to use this experience when teaching equestrian skills.

Hannah and Angela have both been members of National Barrel Horse Association, Alaska Barrel Racers Association, and Mat-Su 4-H. Both have won many awards with their horse companions and enjoy passing on their knowledge and experience to other riders. Hannah is a member of the American Quarter Horse Association and Angela holds membership with the American Paint Horse Association and the USEF. Both are current members of the Interior Horseman’s Association.

Kaitlyn Allen has competed and placed statewide in hunter, jumper, and flat classes.  She is currently rated C2 in Pony Club and is seeking her HB and C3 rating during the 2010 season. She continues her education as a horsewoman constantly by taking regular private lessons and attending clinics with in state and out of state instructors. At DCF, we feel that our instructors should not only be knowledgeable, but should continually strive to improve themselves. We believe we have found such an instructor in Kaitlyn. Kaitlyn is on her third year as an instructor here at the farm.

We are committed to passing and sharing knowledge about horses – their keep, riding styles, training, and basic joy of ownership.

Our current herd of 10 includes Angela’s APHA gelding Isa Perfect Dream (aka Dez), Angela’s APHA mare Sheza Schenic Queen, Becca’s AQHA foundation gelding Chino Chant (aka Chino), Hannah’s AQHA mare Dry Sark (aka Dreamer), a Palomino gelding Dusty (that belongs to Kaitlyn), our APHA colt out of Dreamer and by Dez - DCF Perfect Blizzard (aka Blizzard), CJ (a sweet little pony that is living with us for the time being), Lilah (a TB mare that belongs to Kaitlyn), and a couple of other board horses. The horses enjoy private stalls with turnouts as well as a community field where they frolic and play.
